South Sudan hopes to hold a transparent election just like the United States current midterm elections. These were the words of the country’s elections commission chairman
Professor Abednego Akok, Chairman for National Elections Commission says South Sudan elections after three years will be clean and transparent.
He says civic education which is a priority should be tackled seriously to educate the citizens to know how to vote the right way to avoid disorders in the process.
‘Democracy plays a key role in the commission’s activities and citizens should avoid violence during elections, Akok adds.
James Akol Zakayo, Secretary-General for Political Parties Council says the US elections cannot be compared with South Sudan because the country is in process in amending its laws and the situation is complicated because the conflicting parties are always disagreeing on key issues.
He says political parties which are not registered will be called political groups till they are registered.
Jonathan Cebra, US embassy Public Affairs Officer in South Sudan says, President Donald Trump recently explained that he will concentrate more on campaigning for the Senate than other areas.
Cebra says the US government after the elections will now enter a period that will attract divided views and it is not unique to Trump alone.
The midterm elections mostly focused on two chambers of congress in the U.S Senate and the House of Representatives.435 seats are decided during the midterm election.
Senators are elected to a staggered six-year term. A third of the 100 seats will be up for grabs in the 2018 midterm elections, and the rest will be on the ballot in 2020 or 2022.
