The International Organization for Migration or IOM registered 32,113 internally Displaced Persons or IDPs in two camps in Juba during a recently concluded biometric registration.

In a press statement received by CRN, PoC registration numbers show a significant drop of 18 percent compared to previous records of 2016.

The statement says almost half of the decrease is due to a recent relocation of 3,379 people to Mangateen following inter communal tensions.

The registration data indicated that more than 3,600 individuals left the sites for unknown destinations.

Tya Maskun IOM South Sudan Head of Operations says the success of this exercise depended greatly on close collaboration between different humanitarian partners and the United Nations Missions in South Sudan or UNMISS.

The leader adds that this will go a long way to ensure that vulnerable displaced populations get the assistance they need.

Hundreds of thousands of people sought safety in UN bases after the breakout of conflict and widespread violence in South Sudan in 2013.
