UNHRC says Nansen Award winner committed servant for 20 years

South Sudanese doctors who won Nansen Award, committed to provide medical services to people forced to flee conflict and persecution in Sudan and South Sudan for 20 years, says UN Refugee Agency of UNHCR.
 
It points out that the award is recognition of Dr Evan Atar Adahas outstanding dedication and self-sacrifice in treating over 200,000 people.
 
UNHCR notes that for Dr Atar, running Bunj Hospital people is more than just a job, but a call.
 
He was also serving 144, 000 refugees from Sudan’s Blue Nile State and 53,000 local population of Maban County, the agency explains.
 
UNHCR says Dr Atar’s team at the hospital carries out 58 operations per week in difficult conditions with limited bed space, supplies and equipment.
 
The agency notes that its hospital serves as a maternity hospital and treats diseases like HIV and TB, on a 24-hour basis.
 
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency on Monday announced that Dr. Evan Atar Adaha won Nansen Refugee Award 2018.
 
The prize is UNHCR annual gift to honors an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help people forcibly displaced from their homes.
