The governor of Gbudue state says 745 child soldiers are demobilized in Western Equatoria region.

Badagbu Daniel Rimbasa explains that the demobilization was done through a campaign in collaboration with partners.

He adds that other youth who decided to return need social support to recover from the trauma.

Governor Daniel urges citizens not to discriminate against children formally associated with armed forces.

Currently the children are undergoing trainings on child protection and gender-based violence, he reveals.

A 17-year-old, former child soldier sharing her experience with CRN says she was not comfortable because soldiers forcefully took her in 2015.

Another 24-year-old boy who was forcefully taken in 2013 was not happy because he missed his family.

He adds that now the situation changed because everyone in the family is glad that he is back home and work to gain knowledge.

The children spoke during the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General’s visit to Yambio, Gbudue State.

Government officials, UN and other partners attended the event.
