Deputy Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission or JMEC calls on journalist in South Sudan to constantly focus on reporting the truth.
Ambassador General Augostino Njoroge warns journalists against manipulation by emotions that may occur during reporting, but concentrate majorly on the purpose.
The job of media practitioners is even tougher during this social period where everything said or published on social network can easily be accepted by the society as the truth, he stresses.
‘Your task is even harder in the era of social media whereby almost anything can be said and can be circulated on social media sites like face book and twitter and others and be taken for the gospel truth.’
The ambassador encourages Journalists to continue their vital role of reporting for a better future for the country.
Journalists for Human Right team leader for South Sudan, Laura Bain reminds members of the press to make use of important contacts like JMEC to access information regarding the peace process.
She says it is the full rights of these Journalists to have access to that information.
‘I want to remind you that we want to have you make use of the information and the contacts that you have made from JMEC and CTSMM. Unlike Grace pointed out that their offices is always opened, so don’t feel like you don’t have access to this information they are here to provide for you. It is your country you have the right to access this information.’
Both leaders spoke on Friday during the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop organized by Journalist for Human Rights and JMEC to train reportrs on how to write reconciliation stories.
