Lakes State Civil Society Organizations Network is calling on the peace mediators to shorten the period of the transitional government to eighteen months and people go to elect their leaders.
In a statement, the civil society welcomes IGAD’s initiative in addressing the outstanding issues between the armed opposition and the government of South Sudan.
It comments that the face-to-face meeting between President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar in Addis Ababa, Khartoum and Entebbe has brought high expectations to citizens for lasting peace.
The civil society urges the warring parties to put the interest of the people above their individual attentions.
It appeals to the conflicting parties to accept proposal that brings peace and urges the leaders to choose forgiveness and unity to bring harmony.
The organizations welcome Khartoum proposal that recognizes twenty-one districts than thirty-two states which are difficult to maintain in terms of resources.
The civil society also welcomes Entebbe’s proposal that recognizes four vice presidents, Salva Kiir Mayardit to continue as the President and Dr Riek Machar as his First Deputy.
