East Africa University Council to discuss higher education changes

Inter-University Council for East Africa will meet to discuss the transformation of higher education leadership from Thursday to Friday in Bujumbura, Burundi.
 
The ninth meeting is under the theme: ‘Transformative higher education leadership for enhanced linkage between academia, public and private sectors’.
 
Vice-chancellors of member universities, representatives from higher education ministries and private sector are expected to discuss aspects of industrialization.
 
The meeting is projected to look into the potential role of higher education institutions in terms of sharing experience, knowledge and technology.
 
It will also look at enabling environment and adequacy for effective functioning of the partnerships.
 
Participants will include EAC Secretary-General, heads of commissions for higher education and national councils for science and technology.
 
The two-day meeting will consist of the dialogue session focusing on the university leadership on public sector and industry relations.
 
Status of research in the EAC, role and prospects of the higher education contribution to enhancement of production are other issues to be tackled.
 
The meeting will also discuss set-ups for academia-industry linkages, perspectives of both the academia and industry.
 
The Council will brief higher education stakeholders and member universities about activities coordinated during 2017/2018, achievements and challenges met.
