Gender office trains community leaders on survivors support in Wau

The office of Gender-based Violence in collaboration with International Medical Corps or IMC organized a two-day workshop for community leaders, media houses and government officials on survivors support.

The training was to orient participants on how they should support survivors, says Ruth Kimathiy, Director for Gender-based Violence in Wau, Voice of Hope Radio reports.

The director explains that the leaders would be role models for gender-based violence and be able to reports cases.

She expects community leaders and all groups to develop a positive attitude to survivors after the course.

The workshop also discussed things that led to wide spread of gender-based violence including culture, illiteracy and drinking alcohol, the director explains.

Kimathiy mentions that they will work to help communities to look at consequences of it and eradicate the practice.

Participants were able to raise many consequences of gender-based violence such as dead out of gender violence, suicide because of the frustration survivors go through diseases says the director.

The speaker made remarks on Thursday in Wau during a two-day workshop on support to gender-based survivors.
