Traffic police authorities in Torit State have launched a campaign against motorists who do not have the SSD number plates.
State Director of Traffic Major General Farouk Yousif Omer says cases of crimes have been reported carried out by identified motorbikes which do not have number plates, Emmanuel Radio reports.
He reveals that Torit State has now received new SSD number plates which will help in registering all motorists in the area.
Yousif urges citizens to be patient with the crisis and call on motorcycle riders to report their problems to the police for solutions.
James Lodu, a student who carries Boda-Boda business to sustain the family, says he was surprise there was no information given regarding new number plates.
He says the traffic police charges for the new number plate are too high given the current economic hardship.
Lodu says Boda-Boda riders are challenged by the high cost of fuel and spare parts of motorcycles that makes business standstill.
Another Boda-Boda rider Joseph Angelo Adala strongly request traffic office to give enough time for them to acquire new number plates.
He says he cannot afford 7,000 SSP within shortest time and pay for the new number plate.
So far, more than 15 motorbikes have been confiscated and the police are continuing with the campaign.
