A Civil Society activist in Torit State is calling on the Inter Governmental Authority on development (IGAD) not to interfere with South Sudan peace process.
Okullu Charles, the Chairperson for Civil Society Network in Eastern Equatoria appeals to warring parties to deliberate and come to an agreement as South Sudanese without regional bodies.
Charles believes IGAD has fuel the ongoing conflict in South Sudan and it should account for it.
‘IGAD should be careful because it has done the worse in this country. It has done more harm than good. The issue is that the parties now in Addis Ababa should know that IGAD is not in love with them. Let them discuss and agree as the parties in conflict. If they begin talking and agreeing in difficult issues that they raise within that room am hopeful that peace will come in this country’
Charles worries no peace will prevail in the Country if South Sudanese keeps on listening to advice from neighboring countries.
He urges negotiating parties to learn from the past experience where neighboring countries take advantage of South Sudan for their own gain
‘If they put more ears listening from outside advice from the region, no peace will duel in this country because already we have seen from the example who doesn’t know even a child knows already that the harm that the neighboring countries have cause to this country if you talked about Uganda, Kenya as a Government, about Ethiopia, about Khartoum name them these neighboring countries we know the positive and the negative thing that they have done in this Country’
All we need is that we need the gun to be silent and the gun to be silent is dependent on parties now discussing in Addis Ababa’ Charles adds.
He calls on warring parties to consider the suffering of citizens instead of their political and personal interest.
