The Chairperson of Civil Society Network for Eastern Equatoria fears that many South Sudanese will seek refuge in the neighbouring countries if the negotiating parties do not bring peace.
Charles Okullu calls on the negotiating parties in Addis Ababa to leave aside their individual interest and value the people for lasting peace in the country.
He accuses politicians of taking advantage of the suffering citizens for self-interest.
‘If they trigger another conflict, the remaining population will go away and at the end of the day they will be left alone. Some of the politicians are taking time in bringing peace because they are benefitting from the people who are suffering’.
The Chairperson appeals to parties involve in the peace agreement to work hard and commit to bringing lasting peace in the country.
‘So the only thing we urge them now is to work very hard because we are watching at all of them to see who is doing what. Any group who comes with brilliant ideas that will support the people in South Sudan and bring peace at the end of the day, we are going to support that idea’
Mr Okullu calls on everybody to support the High Level Revitalization Forum as the only initiative that brings the conflicting parties together to iron their grievances.
He says inclusion of all parties in the peace talks will help warring parties to point out their grievances for the sake of peace in South Sudan.
‘We support the High Level Revitalization forum and we are supporting them to talk. We don’t want any initiative that will exclude others. That will not work let them use the forum to involve everybody. Let them come and talk. We support the High Level Revitalization forum and we feel it is the only way that will lead to a lasting peace in this country’.
He adds that putting down arms is all what every South Sudanese desires.
