U.S Government in a statement released on Tuesday has threatened to cut aid to South Sudan unless the conflict ends and peace is restored in the country.

U.S says will begin reviewing its assistance to the new nation to ensure the money does not contribute to or extend the conflict, or enable greedy or corrupt behavior, says the statement.

U.S Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says the government of South Sudan has lost credibility and the United States is losing patience.

She says South Sudan is displaying an unwillingness to live up to a 2017 ceasefire that sought to end the nation’s four-year civil war.

She adds that the U.S is deeply frustrated with the lack of progress in Addis Ababa negotiations and believes the only path to peace is through a negotiated agreement for a transitional government.

However, Minister of Cabinet Affaires Elia Lomurö says he feels the U.S and the British governments are challenging South Sudan.

He urges his political compatriots to stay calm and prove Troika wrong.

Dr Lomurö says the government has decided to involve political groups outside the country directly to find quick solution to the ongoing peace process.

According to the US more than seven million people face food crisis and famine looming across various parts of the South Sudan in the coming months.

The US is South Sudan’s largest donor, giving over 3 billion dollars in humanitarian assistance since conflict broke out in December 2013.
