The statement made by Dr Mawien Akot about the health status of President Salva Kiir is against medical ethics and politically motivated, says former Minister of Health in Northern Behr el Ghazal State.

Tong Deng says Dr Mawien was a medical consultant at Juba Teaching Hospital and was not in a presidential medical unit.

Deng says a sound minded doctor who practice medical ethics cannot make such statement unless it was under other influences.

Dr Mawien has no access to the president Kiir’s records he doesn’t know anything about it. He has not been a medical doctor of president Kiir. So, there are doctors who are dealing with the President I know them because I have been working in the ministry of health and I know very well who are the one [those] working there. That is one. Number two, that interview of Dr Mawien, I downloaded the video and watch it and I saw it was more politically motivated, it was not a medical meant interview as such’ Deng says

Dr Mawien claims that he was a physician at the presidency medical unit and has been treating government officials including President Kiir.

He claims that the president is not healthy enough to run the state affairs.

Deng insists that all claims made by Dr Mawien have no any medical ground and are against medical ethics.

Deng believes health records and consultancy are kept confidential and no doctor has a right to disclose the information unless required by the law.

There will be no patient that will trust him [or] to go to see him. Because that information has gone already everywhere in the internet and now patients will be very careful to see Dr Mawien because he has already put the life of the patient in danger and no one want to there’

The former state health minister is calling on South Sudanese to ignore Doctor Mawien and continue to trust health practitioners in the country.
