Sacred Heart Parish Tonj of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek on Sunday baptized thirty-five people and gave the first Communion to twenty other candidates.

Fr Joseph Cane, who administered the Sacraments, told the congregation that the purpose is to save persons from the power of darkness and sins.

He preaches that the Sacrament of Baptism is a gate and bridge that connects and allows mankind to get other sacraments.

It is an important sacrament that washes away the original sins, he adds.

Meanwhile Albino Liai, one of the catechists, points out that irregularity during teaching was the main challenge that faced him.

He asks parents to allow their children to learn the word of God before receiving any sacrament.

Liai encouraged those who received the two sacraments to continue praying in order to increase their faith in Christ and win the temptations of Satan.

Joseph Majak Machar, one of the catechumens, says the sacraments have connected him with Christ.

He urges all people who did not received the sacraments to join catechism and receive them.
