Authorities of Tonj state have on Monday begun disarming local civilians aiming to reduce communal conflict in the area.
Tonj State Governor Anthony Bol Madut told Don Bosco radio that the disarmament is a process to bring peace and unity among citizens.
‘The unified forces are on the ground to disarm communities in order to stay in peace and have time to cultivate their laid’ he noted.
Bol Madut adds that anyone who resists surrendering their guns will face the law.
More than (40) AK 47 rifles were collected in former Tonj North and 10 from Mabior Yar Counties since the exercise started.
He expects other neighbouring states to carry out similar exercises to allow the whole region to live in peace.
