A veterinary doctor in the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries in Imotong State has confirmed that Lopa County lacks medicines and it is affecting animal’s production in the area.
Doctor Galdo Okwahi John reports that the cattle keepers are now using herbal medicines to treat their animals.
‘Our office is empty. No medicines. We only refer people to the pharmacy and buy from there. Our people are cattle keepers and they are currently using herbal medicine locally known as iholole which helping the cattle keepers in this area. It is the local medicine for cough and other diseases. The other herbal medicine is call horrei that can help animals’
Okwahi adds that people are also referred to buy medicines from pharmacy.
‘There was a team that came from Torit to vaccinate cattle in Longiro, Lopa western part of the county. But the vaccine was not enough and most animals were not vaccinated because they cannot cover the whole area. Up to now the cows are at high risk in case of any disease outbreak’.
Doctor Okwahi warns that the cattle are at risk of getting diseases.
He asks the government and NGOs to rescue the situation.
