Women entrepreneurs are complaining that Juba City Council is imposing none transparent and high taxation, which is affecting their business activities.
Ayo Mary Jino is a Program Assistant of Peace Dividend Development Organization. She says in an interview with Radio Bakhita that the process of tax collection complicates planning and opening of enterprises.
Ayo says some taxes are paid at the collection points or banks while others are collected directly at the business premises or market places.
She complains that business women are working on loses because of too much collection of money, discouraging them from operating businesses in the country.
The women argue that the services offered by city council are not satisfying citizens and the business community, despite of the high collection of taxes.
They mention garbage collection; electricity and water points, as some of the services city council does not fulfill. But Bakhita Radio could not reach City council for comments.
Awut Deng Acuil, Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare says her ministry will continue collecting data on the activities of women entrepreneurs.
The speakers made the remarks during a workshop that brought together 50 participants from stakeholders, officials from the national and state ministries, civil society organizations and development partners from relevant field.
