People living with HIV/AIDS in Nagero County of Tambura State have not been receiving their antiretroviral drugs for the last six months due to high transportation and insecurity along the road to the town.
Hellen John, head of the association of people living with HIV/AIDS in Nagero, says they have lost many of their people due to lack of drugs, Radio Anisa reports.
‘The transportation from here to Tambura is costly and many of our people cannot afford’, she adds.
The leader says the ARV drugs have helped her for last eleven years, but expresses fear of losing her life in the next few months if she does not get drugs.
She explains that many of them have been developing other diseases like malaria, cough, and typhoid among others which are killing them.
Martin Paulino who has been living with the disease for over three years, says for the last five months he has developed high fever and some rashes on his body due to lack of ARV drugs.
He calls on the authorities in the state and other health organizations to quickly save their lives.
Simon Mark, head of Nagero Primary Health Care Centre, admits shortage of ARV drugs in the area.
He says some health NGOs which were working in the area have left the Nagero due to insecurity in February 2017.
Kalisto Nzeme, Director of HIV/AIDS in Tambura State, says they are facing a problem of trained health officials who deals with ARV drugs in Nagero County.
But he did not mention when they will be sending someone there to help the people living with HIV in the area.
