The government and the opposition representatives taking part in the second round of the revitalization of the peace agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia say they are optimistic that a consensus between the two parties will be reached soon.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday evening, Michael Makuei Lueth a member of the government delegation says the mediators are working on the final draft of the guiding principles that would soon be signed by both parties.
Makuei admits that there are, what he terms as ‘Small issues’ still exist between them with the opposition. ‘The opposition groups are suggesting that once they sign an agreement they want the State of Emergency lifted.’ He reveals.
Makuei says if they finish the outstanding issues of the governance and security arrangements, the parties will then move to permanent ceasefire which will be followed by implementation timetable.
Kwaje Lasu who represents the opposition groups expresses optimism to bring peace to South Sudan.
He says they are working hard with a lot of compromises spirit to get lasting peace to the people of South Sudan despite challenges.
The officials spoke on the third day of the second phase of the High Level Revitalization Forum in Addis Abba, Ethiopia.
