NIRAS project plans to empower youth through livelihood programs

NIRAS, an organization of Water for Eastern Equatoria is meeting youth, football association and government in Torit, Imotong State to mobilize young people in livelihood programs and sports.
 
Andrew Yunda Joseph, NIRAS deputy team leader, says the aim is to identify challenges affecting youth to keep them in livelihood programs including agriculture water and sanitation, Radio Emmanuel reports.
 
Engaging youth will keep them busy and reduce crimes in communities, he adds.
 
Yunda reveals that his organization has secured funds from the Netherlands government for youth activities.
 
Otililing James Oliang, Imotong State Youth Union leader says insecurity and lack of funding affect young people’s activities.
 
He discloses a plan to carry out massive awareness on the importance of peace across the state to give chance to developmental activities.
 
The youth leader calls on nongovernmental organizations to empower youth through involving them in vocational trainings.
 
Imotong State First Director-General for Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Agapitos Lolikai Locho, blames some NGOs for carrying assessments without implementing their activities.
 
He urges NIRAS to diversify its activities to youth vocational training for young people to be self-reliant.
