The International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC vows to increase its field assistance activities in Darfur region of Sudan in 2018.
ICRC in a statement says years of conflict have adversely affected the health and welfare of residents in the area.
The ICRC will for the first time carry out new aid activities in South Kordofan where the people are in need of food, safe drinking water and health care.
It observes that families living in Sudan’s conflict-affected areas have been suffering for too long.
ICRC President Peter Maurer says it is notable that the government of the Sudan recognizes the needs and allows their workers to carry out many activities.
He expresses their commitment to address short term needs and help strengthen the resilience of the people in the long term.
Maurer says ICRC assistance for 2018 includes the distribution of seeds, tools and pesticides to help internally displaced persons and host communities grow their food.
He adds that food or cash will be distributed to help those families until the harvest.
ICRC teams will also repair water pumps and vaccinate livestock, says Maurer.
