It is unfortunate that South Sudan is still suffering from war despite the agreement, regrets a visually impaired person.
Henry Swaka says peace is the biggest expectation to people with disabilities particularly and South Sudanese generally.
He believes it will be difficult for the country to make any progress in education, health and employment among others for those with disabilities without peace.
Swaka urges concerned authorities especially the Ministry of Education to work hard rather than seeing policies just in papers.
The visually impaired official says South Sudan has a lot to do only if peace prevails, including rectification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
There will be no serious steps towards recognizing and addressing issues affecting people with disabilities without rectifying the Convention, says Swaka.
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an international human rights treaty of the United Nations intended to protect the rights and dignity of disabled persons.
Parties to the Convention are required to promote, protect and ensure the full enjoyment of human rights by persons with disabilities and equality under the law.
