Some schools in Yei are urging the World Food Program, WFP to improve on the feeding system by providing beans, maize flour or rice and cooking oil among others.

A headmaster of Excel Primary School, Henry Chandia, says they boil sorghum to feed the pupils because WFP did not give beans or other food items during the recent food distribution.

He argues that sorghum alone is not a proper food to feed pupils.

Though the feeding program is helpful, it has increased school burden because the administration is to buy firewood, construct a kitchen and employing cooks, complains the head teacher.

David Lugeron, WFP Policy Officer explains that school feeding program is a global intervention in areas affected by food insecurity to encourage parents to send their children to learn.

He says in 2017, WFP supports 626 schools across the country.

The policy affirms that the agency does not provide supports like grinding services but it is the community to give such supports to schools.

Haidar Bidali, Health Teacher Emmanuel Model Primary in Yei, calls on WFP to continue with the feeding program to sustain children at school.

Desmond Friday confirms that the pupils are feeding on boiled sorghum.

He says his performance improved in second term from third position to second after the introduction of feeding program.

He believes WFP will continue with the system.
