An SPLA soldier is sentenced to death by firing squad for murder and other soldiers were charged for committing different crimes after court proceedings in Juba.

Brigadier General Lul Ruai Kuong, SPLA Spokesperson, told reporters in Juba that thirty-eight soldiers have been sentenced to serve prison for murder, rape and random shooting among other offenses.

He says for the random shooting, a soldier has been dismissed from SPLA and sentenced to two years in jail.

Another soldier who also fired guns randomly at the Military Intelligent School was also dismissed and sentenced to one year imprisonment, Brigadier General Ruai adds.

The Spokesperson explains that a combatant who raped a civilian was silenced to imprisonment.

Advocate Loboka Francis Hillary explains that after judgment, the file is usually taken to the Supreme Court for review and to the President for approval.

He says a court determines and rules out how the crime is committed whether it is intentional or not and whether the family demands blood compensation for the case of murder.

The Advocate calls on the media to report on the sentences to clear doubts or perceptions that SPLA soldiers act with impunity and are not punished
