The Missionaries of St Daniel Comboni in Juba has organized football and volleyball tournament, known as Comboni Cup, among some schools as a continuation of the celebration of the 150 years of existence.
Fr Louis Tony Okot, Provincial Superior of Comboni Missionaries in South Sudan says the tournament is under the theme: ‘We promote justice, peace and integration of creation’.
He says the first football match started on Monday between Supiri and Juba Day Secondary Schools.
Meanwhile the volleyball tournament will start in November this year.
Fr Tony says Supiri Secondary beat Juba Day School match 6-5.
The Provincial Superior believes the tournament is to bring youth together to build relationship, learn how to love and respect one another, promotes unity through sports in the country.
There is need to involve youth in productive activities that can promote peace and unity in South Sudan, says Sikwat Innocent, Assistance Coordinator for Justice and Peace.
He encourages participants from schools to respect and cooperate with referees and among themselves.
Innocent outlines that St Comboni Secondary, Juba Technical, Juba Commercial Schools and Catholic University are participating in the competition.
He says Comboni family has prizes for the teams playing, including cup for the winning team, gloves for the best goalkeeper and models among others.
