Some local NGOs have begun a peace campaign in Gogrial State aiming at raising awareness about co-existence among local communities in the area.
Arich Deng Arich of TOCH organization in Kwajok says they witnessed the deadly clashes that killed over 200 people between Apuk and Aguok communities between May and July.
He says the presence of firearms in the hands of civilians has contributed negatively to the escalation of violence in the area.
Deng says guns should be handed over to the government to protect civilians.
Kwajok Mayor, Asunta Yar Akol, admits that the procession of guns by civilians has affected peace efforts in the state.
She says communal violence has also hindered implementation of developmental projects.
Ambibola Iyno of UNMISS Civil Affairs in Kwajok says engagement of youth in positive activities can help promote peace among communities.
Gogrial State is one of the areas under the state of emergency President Salva Kiir declared in July this year.
