Minster urges law makers to pass the refugees convention bill

South Sudan’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs is urging the National Assembly to discuss and pass the World Refugees Convention of 1951.
 
Adding that South Sudan can become a full member with United Nation High Comimission for Refugees.
 
Hussain Mar Nyuot observes that since South Sudan did not sign the convention, they are not recognize in Geneva as full members but only as observers.
 
He pointed out that South Sudan host more than 250 thousand refugees, from Sudan and Ethiopia.
 
But only getting little hospitality of the South Sudanese host communities.
 
He urges members of the South Sudan’s Transitional Assembly to pass the bill into law. 
 
So that refugees in the country are able to get full privileges from the authorities in the country.
 
He advises the United Nation High Commissioners for Refugees to explain the convention, and law properly to help people understand it. 
 
He says naturally, South Sudanese are welcoming people.
 
Maria Corinna Miguel, Assistant representative for protection at UN Refugees Affairs says, South Sudan has progressed in ratified other African treaties.
 
Which is a good indication for the country, she adds.
 
The speakers were speaking on Thursday on round table discussion on 1951 convention relating to the status of refugees.
 
The UN Refugee Agency and commission for refugee affairs hosted the program.
