IGAD sets two months time frame for revitalizing peace process in South Sudan

The Inter-governmental Authority on Development, IGAD says the revitalization of peace process in South Sudan will be underway within two months period.
 
IGAD Special Envoy to South Sudan, Ambassador Ismail Wais told reporters in Juba on Tuesday that IGAD members of the Council of Ministers met with all significant parties to the conflict, and collected their views on how the revitalization process would be done.
 
The revitalization forum will focus on achieving lasting ceasefire and resuming political dialogue.
 
Ambassador Wais describes the meeting with the parties to the conflict as positive and constructive.
 
He says IGAD members committee will reflect on the outcome of the consultation meeting over the next few weeks and draft agenda for the high level revitalization forum.
 
Ambassador Wais, however, says the opposition leader Riek Machar is an important stakeholder, but he will determine his representative in the forum. He did not explain why Machar is unable to attend the forum personally.
 
He says all the parties to the conflict agreed to ceasefire, support revitalization forum for lasting peace in the country.
 
Wais appreciates the commitment and what he describes as thoughtful contributions of all stakeholders they have met.
