Authorities in Imotong State believe that youth are the major perpetrators of sexual and gender base violence in the state.
During three days workshop of train of trainers, officials describe youth as “agents and victims of sexual and gender base violence”, Radio Emmanuel reports.
Imotong State Minister of Information, Jacob Atari Albano, acknowledges that all forms of domestic violence in the country are committed by youth.
He calls on young people to acquire knowledge on impact of sexual and gender base violence.
While the Director General for Culture Youth and Sports, Wani Kute Joseph says gender base violence has resulted to separation or divorce of most families.
He urges the youth to unite and find solution to their problems.
“we the youth this is our time to change the nation we have to go out and work around our people to teach them to teach them the impact of gender base Violence, I know we are the target and we are the victims of all this forms of violence be it domestic, be it what, it is always the youth who are always affected so this is an opportunity for you and together we need to combat to make sure that we put, we aware our communities, our society to understand the right of others”, says Kute.
Ms Catherine Pita is the Project Manager for EVE Organization for women development. She says lack of employment has forced many youth to carry out violent activities.
Pita reveals that her Organization is training youth in Imotong state on the impact of gender base violence in their communities and their role in nation building.
She says “It is a high time for us today to come and discuss our domestic problems facing us in our houses, this is a very good initiative put by EYE so that we as youth will be able to stand to face domestic problems like Gender base violence in our homes, all of us come from those places and we know that Gender base Violence create a lot of problems and even it brings divorce, it brings separation and we want to come together and address this issue as Youth”
“Our whole nation is bleeding because of violence and Youth are being use by wrong ideologist to perpetrate this violence, much as it is not youth alone but majority of youth that are being used because they have energy, they have everything to and they are also majority of them there complaining of no employment so they sit every body comes promise them something small go and do this or let me go with you and you become my people, and I trained you and you come and do this and you will get something”, she concludes.
