1.4 billion Pounds budget for 2017 education not enough, says minister

The Minister of Education says the 2017 budget to the tune of 1.4 billion South Sudanese Pounds allocated for General Education is not enough.
 
Deng Deng Hoc Yai says a lot in the education sector has not been funded.
 
He says the ministry wanted ten percent because many institutions benefit from the same budget.
 
Minister Deng adds that training of teachers and school inspection are not funded.
 
He believes that training of teachers is very important to improve the quality of learning.
 
Sardar Umar Alam, UNESCO representative to South Sudan, says education is a must for sustainable peace and development.
 
There are 758, million illiterate adults around the world and 263 million children out of school he reminds people.
 
Umar says the number of illiterate people in South Sudan is over seventy percent.
 
The officials spoke to journalists on Thursday marking World Literacy Day in Juba.
