The United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Yambio calls on the government to respect and protect the rights of the internally displaced persons or IDPs.
Francis Eugenio, UNHCR Protection Associate, says the IDPs have full right to move freely and be protected, Radio Anisa reports.
He says it is the duty of the army to protect everybody.
The Kampala African Union Convention adopted in 2009 calls for respect and protection of the rights of IDPs, explains Eusebio.
He says the UNHCR together with other partners’ support IDPs with basic needs.
Protection Associate says the total number of IDPs in Western Equatoria Region is over sixty thousand and more than fifteen thousand households.
He was presenting a report to the top government officials, NGOS, civil society organizations, church personnel on Wednesday in Yambio.
