Imatong State Ministry of Health in collaboration with Health Link South Sudan concluded a two-day workshop on gender-based violence in Torit on Friday.

The workshop focused on dissemination of toolkits and standard operation, Radio Emmanuel reports

The tool kit is a book written last year supervised by the Ministry of Gender and Social Welfare with support from IGAD partners to disseminate information on dangers and solutions to gender-based violence in Imotong State.

Pastor Johnson Sebit, Imotong State Director-General for Gender and Social Welfare, says they noticed rampant cases of gender-based violence among communities.

Monica Ajok of Health Link says the document will help partners to quickly respond and handle the gender-based violence survivors.

Imotong State Minister of Education, Hassan Urbano Alex, says majority of South Sudanese in rural areas do not understand gender issues.

He advises partners to work in collaboration with government to villages.

Minister Urbano pointed gender-based violence is an obstacle to education of girls because they are considered as sources of wealth in the family.
