The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations is visiting South Sudan on Tuesday.
UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS in statement says Jean-Pierre Lacroix is expected to hold meetings with government officials.
The statement explains that the chief will advocate for a country-wide cessation of hostilities.
The Under-Secretary-General is also expected to reinforce the importance of an inclusive political solution towards ending the current conflict and greater cooperation with the UN Mission and humanitarian actors, the document adds.
The Lacroix will also undertake two field visits in the country and will conclude with a press conference on Thursday in Juba, the statement says.
