Theft and killings increasing in Nuba Mountains, says Commissioner

The commissioner of Heiban County in the Nuba Mountains notes that there is widespread of theft and killings in the area.
 
Said Kocho, attributes the killings and looting to skyrocketing prices in the markets.
 
He explains that some crimes are committed because some people have large families and cannot manage, forcing them to loot and cheat others.
 
The commissioner remarks that traders complain of a lot of money imposed at checkpoints which increase the prices.
 
He cites that there is need to reduce checkpoints around areas bordering his County.
 
He adds that illegal markets in the region have fueled many crimes and robberies in the county.
 
Kocho calls on the new chairman of SPLM-N to work for change in the region.
 
The region is stricken by hunger and economic hardship due to little rainfall last year that let to food gap in the area.
