The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS is treating civilians injured during armed attack in Jonglei.

The attack by armed gunmen left 36 people dead and 24 wounded over weekend in Kolmerek Village, north of Bor.

UNMISS Head of field office, Deborah Schein, says the Mission was asked to help treat the injured by providing x-rays as Bor Hospital does not have the facilities.

Jonglei Information Minister, Jacob Akech Deng, appreciates UNMISS’ provision of medical care for those who were critically wounded.

He observes that people in Bor Hospital are overwhelmed and there are no many medicines.

The minister condemns the attacks which he says put at risk the implementation of the cessation of hostilities agreement between the Jonglei and Boma States in May.
