Celebrating July 9, South Sudan Independence Day is to thank God for the gifts He gave to South Sudanese, says Chairperson of Justice and Peace Commission of Wau of Catholic Diocese.

Natalina Andrea Mabu says getting national independence was not easy, but it came after many people shed their blood for the country, Radio Voice of Hope reports.

She adds that people are enjoying fruits of hard work of the heroes and heroines of South Sudan.

Fr Justin Atit calls for more collective efforts to build a nation after the independence, though unfortunately the country went to war in 2013.

The speakers made the remarks on Monday at Catholic University of South Sudan, Wau campus during the Independence Day commemoration.
