Church leaders ask world community to continue helping refugees

Leaders of South Sudan Council of Churches appeal to the international community to continue giving humanitarian assistance to displaced persons within and outside the country.
 
The leaders made the call during their meeting with government and the Church of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa over the weekend.
 
They urge the neighbouring countries of South Sudan to continue welcoming the people seeking refuge across the borders.
 
They call on IGAD and Ethiopian government to convince its South Sudan counterpart to implement ‘meaningful measures to rescue’ the economy and people’s from burden.
 
The leaders call for freedom of movement of people and humanitarian aid and workers.
 
They urge IGAD and other partners to determine why the agreement has failed and what should be the next step.
 
The leaders call on the neighbouring countries to influence South Sudan warring parties to prevent flow of weapons to the country.
