Caritas Torit on Thursday distributed seeds and agricultural tools to hundreds of farmers in Mairo residential area of Torit in Imotong State.
The distribution with support from Caritas South Sudan, targeting nearly four hundred farmers, is to enable farmers fight the striking hunger through local produce, Radio Emmanuel reports.
Itwari Josephine Felix, one of the beneficiaries, says the seeds came at the right time.
Juma Logiligil, another beneficiary, says all he needs is adequate rainfall to help him succeed in this year’s harvest.
He thanks Caritas Torit for responding to the need of farmers.
Severino Opio, a senior food security officer in Caritas Torit, says his organization only targets farmers who are able to cultivate in their gardens.
Ojoadi Francis of Caritas South Sudan urges beneficiaries to make proper use of the seeds and digging items they received to fight the looming hunger in the country.
He says South Sudanese has the energy to support them instead of depending to other countries.
Caritas Torit has earlier distributed food items to the most vulnerable groups like the elderly, disabled among others in communities of Imotong State.
