An official in the national government denies renewal of the Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan signed in August 2015.

Minister of Petroleum, Ezekiel Lul Gatkuoth, says Intergovernmental Authorities on Development clearly during the summit stated that the only way is to implement the agreement as signed, Radio Bakhita reports.

He was reacting to a statement that IGAD heads of states plan to organize a high-level forum to revitalize the 2015 peace agreement.

The urgent forum is expected to bring parties to the agreement including divided groups to discuss concrete measures to restore permanent ceasefire, the regional body says in a communiqué on Monday.

The body directs JMEC Chairperson and IGAD Executive Secretary to provide necessary logistical arrangements.

JMEC Chairperson Festus Mogae welcomes IGAD’s decision to convene a high-level renewal forum for the parties to the agreement.

He says key opposition groups should be allowed to participate in the high level forum without pre-conditions.
