Police Criminal Investigation Department or CID captured twenty-three bundles of opium at Malang checkpoint of Wau town on Tuesday morning.
Police Commissioner of Wau Municipality Major Achuil Achuil Ngong says the CID personnel arrested a suspect in a minibus coming from Rumbek going to Arok area in Thuc State, Don Bosco Radio.
He says opium crime can lead to death sentence because it is prohibited in the law.
Mel Aleo Goch, Wau Mayor, confirms the crime and that the police force and security organs are ready to monitor unlawful movements in the municipality.
He warns people against using Wau State as a route for smuggling illegal things.
Mayor Aleo urges security organs to take necessary procedures in order to get the right information behind the crime.
He says the suspect would be taken to concerned authorities to face justice.
The suspect spoke that he wants to sell the opium in order to buy food items for his children.
