Women say they do not feel privileges of motherhood

Several mothers in Imotong State say it is unfortunate that their own children and men are participating in activities like raping and undressing them in the recurring conflicts of South Sudan which dehumanize mothers.
 
They call on the warring parties to resolve their grievances for peace to prevail in the country so that women enjoy the privileges of being mothers and wives, Radio Emmanuel reports.
 
Davidica Ikai, chairperson of ITWAK Women Association, a capacity building organization for women in Torit, urges men to know and respect the values of females.
 
Margret Itto, Imotong State Deputy Governor, says women’s hearts are bleeding because it is their children killing themselves.
 
The conflict has even made service delivery more difficult, she adds.
 
Fr John Opi, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, pleads for peaceful coexistence in the country to reduce the risks women get when searching for food in bushes.
 
Idwa Margret Okuye, a mother, says though women participated in the liberation of South Sudan, they are still victims in the ongoing conflicts.
 
She urges women to deliver all troubles in prayers for lasting peace in South Sudan.
 
The speakers gave the remarks during the Mothers’ Day celebrated in Torit on Sunday.
