The house to house search of illegal fire arms in Torit town is to get rid of unnecessary shootings that claim lives of innocent people and threatening others at gun points, says Governor of Imotong State.
Tobiolo Alberio Oromo says it has been a cry of the people after realizing several incidences in town, Radio Emmanuel reports.
Oromo says the exercise that started last Saturday will continue until Torit town is free from gunshots.
He says only forces on duty will be allowed to use guns.
The Governor clarifies that the house to house search is a mandate of the government to protect innocent civilians to make state peaceful.
According to Oromo, the collection will reduce crimes in the town and would be extended to counties so as to realize peace in the state.
The governor made the remarks during a press statement on Saturday.
Unnecessary shootings by unknown gunmen in Torit town resulted to the death of a medical student and a civilian in Addis Ababa residential area few weeks ago.
