Archbishop Fred J. Hiltz, Primate of the Anglican Church Reverend Douglas H. Rollwage wrote a joint ecumenical letter to the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, concerning the deteriorating situation in South Sudan.
The Church leaders express concerns that they continue to hear disturbing reports of gross violations of human rights being carried out with total impunity in South Sudan.
The three signatories ask the government of Canada to consider increasing its support to the UN Mission in South Sudan.
They ask their government to be a leading voice at the United Nations for greater international assistance.
Encourage the international community to provide more humanitarian aid and help in restoring the rule of law and protecting human rights, the three leaders tell their government.
The Bishops want their government to work diligently with Canadian businesses and the international community, including the UN Security Council, to prevent weapons and other military-grade materials from reaching South Sudan.
