The Catholic Bishop of Yei Diocese is calling on the humanitarian agencies to open their eyes on the people who are in dire situation.

Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe says the people are in need of urgent food assistance in the area, Radio Easter reports.

He says the help given in the last three to four months is finished.

Bishop Lodu laments that they have nowhere to go even to harvest the nearby cassava in the farms because of the security situation.

Bishop Lodu calls on the humanitarian organizations, including the UN and World Food Program WFP, not to turn blind eyes to the suffering people of Yei.

He further appeals that the aid agencies should listen to the cry of the people because it is human that everyone needs food to eat.

The Catholic prelate explains that it is not because people are lazy but because of fear of insecurity.

He reiterates that people are unable to move freely in the town because they are not sure of their security.

The Bishop was giving his message after a report from the head of UNHCR in Yei and the Commissioner for Relief for Yei River State that WFP is not willing to supply food to Yei because it is better off than other Areas.
