Non-governmental organizations, NGOs in their regular meeting in Yei expressed concerns about the food insecurity in the state.

In February, food security and livelihood cluster wrote a strong letter mandated by the NGO Forum to WFP to provide food to Yei, but the letter went silent says Peter Butuli, Chairman of South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Yei.

He reveals that WFP delegation conducted well assessment in Yei and recommended food distribution, but was also not implemented, Radio Easter reports.

A committee was formed headed by SSRRC to draft a letter to reflect the real situation and reinforce the letter and the assessment sent, says Butuli

He adds that WFP was very negative and suggested that Yei was better off compared to other areas.

The SSRRC Chairman says WFP wants further dialogue with local authorities on how they should access vulnerable populations outside Yei town.

He regrets that the report has frustrated their effort as WFP does not bring food assistance to Yei.

The chairman was briefing the governor about concerns of the humanitarian agencies on food security in Yei town on Friday.
