Environmental Health Secretariat in Nuba Mountains region is sensitizing communities about dangers of contaminated water and environment as the rainy season begins.

Osman Hazari head of Environmental Care and Epidemic Eradication told Radio Voice of Peace that the first running streams in the year are contaminated.

He says such streams or stagnant water cause diarrhea, skin infections and other waterborne diseases.

The head of Environmental Care advises communities to boil water collected from wells before drinking.

He encourages parents to prevent children from playing in stagnant water and keep them away from containers of drinking water.

Hazari calls on communities to maintain healthy environment to reduce spread of diseases.

When the environment is clean, drinking water becomes safe, he notes.
