The Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism says one thousand wild animals were killed between January and February this year.

According to Bakhita Radio, Spokesperson Brigadier General Khamis Adieng Ding, says the figure was recorded in a joint operation on wildlife activities.

Adieng pledges to create awareness to the organized forces about the importance of wild animals.

Last year, Wildlife Conservation Society has documented a sharp rise in illegal activities, including ivory trafficking and illegal logging in many parts of South Sudan.

It says locals, including some armed forces as well as international individuals in the country are responsible of killing the animals.

Last week, President Salva Kiir called for the establishment of a special court to prosecute wild life related crimes.
