The Ministry of Petroleum says extra troops will be deployed in the Upper Nile oil fields, to boost security after the abduction of six oil workers by opposition forces.

Two Indian oil workers were abducted at Adar oil field of Northern Upper Nile on March 8, Bakhita Radio reports.

And four others were also kidnapped on March 18 in Gumry oil field.

Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth says military escorts will be provided to oil workers carrying out duties.

He insists that the kidnappings will not hinder oil production in the area.

Among the abductees were three South Sudanese and a Pakistani national.

The abductors are demanding that all foreign oil workers should be withdrawn and oil production halted.

A call rejected by the government.

Minister Lol was speaking to journalists at Adar and Gumry oil fields on Tuesday.
