The European Union or EU Commission has announced an emergency aid package worth 82 million Euros in response to famine declaration in South Sudan.
Government and aid agencies declare that 100 thousand South Sudanese are starving to death in the Upper Nile region.
They say 40 percent of the country’s population about 4.9 million people are in need of urgent food relief.
EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides says the ‘tragedy in South Sudan is entirely man made.’
Urgent action is needed to prevent more people from dying of hunger, the EU official says.
The aid will be used for the most urgent needs in South Sudan and in neighbouring countries hosting refugees.
