The Minister of Livestock and Fisheries cautions the public to stop cultivating along river banks.

James Janka Duku says no agricultural or whatever activity should take place along the river banks.

Cultivators and pastoralists should move at least 100 metres away from the river boundaries, he advises.

Minister Janka says rivers should be protected from inflow of soil and other impurities to avoid drying up.

He explains that if soil flows into a river, the river becomes shallow making it to dry up easily.

The official warns that many rivers have dried up due to inflow of soil resulting from human activity.

Minister Janka was speaking during the launch of the National Adaptation Programme of Action to climate Change in Juba this Wednesday.
